Some of these programs include:
1. The Family Support Program: F.S.P
Since the family constituted the most vital unit of our society, the F.S.P was established to be the bedrock and above all the backbone for nation building. She initiated this program out of the need to change and sanitize national productivity in economic activities.
The main objective of F.S.P is to improve the standard of living of Nigerians through the family unit on health, education, agriculture, income generation, disability and destitution.
Other areas of interest include issues affecting children and widows and national peace. For proper documentation and accountability she affiliated the F.S.P. to federal ministry of women affairs social development.
2. FAMILY SUPPORT TRUST FUND
She established the family support trust fund (F.S.T.F.) and launched it in 1994.
One of the major achievements of the F.S.T.F was the construction of the national women and children hospital, Abuja. Another project under F.ST.F which she excited is children's palace complex.
3. On some of her outstanding programmers on humanity, some international organizations conferred awards on the first lady:
1995- International year of family award for introducing F.S.T.F. Other bodiesare: - UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, UNIFEM and other similar bodies.
4. NATIONAL HOSPITALS FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN
Under this programme, several hospitals were built for women and children all over the Nation. Clinics were also built at various strategic areas to cater for accident victims along some of the nation's highways.
In addition, V.V.F clinics, amusement parks and vocational schools were also built at appropriate locations within the local and state governments. The women and children hospital (WCH) Abuja is one of the most sophisticated in the country and possibly the continent.
5. THE NATIONAL PROGRAMME ON IMMUNIZATION (NPI)
As part of the effort to reduce the rate of infant mortality in the country through the eradication of well-know five killer diseases. The percentage attained was 91 percent in 1997.
6. THE FAMILY ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMME (FEAP)
It is a program and also an investment which alleviates poverty and also raising the productive and economic power of the people.
7. THE AFRICA FIRST LADIES PEACE MISSION
This mission was established to build bridges of peace and mend fences. General issues of conflict and warring areas like Liberia, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Sierra Leone were discussed. The continent summit which was held in 1997 was well attended by about twenty-three first ladies from the continent and representatives of countries outside Africa. Representatives of the UN, AU (OAU) ECOWAS, EU, and international and national NGO'S were also present.
8. ESTABLISHEDMENT OF FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRES AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
The efforts of enhancing the status of women were one of her paramount objectives in Nigeria. This ministry tackled the burning issues which affected the lives of women, children disabled and many others.
9. PROPOSAL FOR THE ESTABLISHEMENT OF WOMEN UNIVERSITY
In consideration of the educational imbalances between men and women, boys and girls particularly in the field of science and technology in 1994, she proposed to the federal government then establishment of a women university in order to correct these seeming imbalances.
10. LAUDABLE HUMANITARIAN GESTURES OF HER EXCELLENCY (DR MRS MARYAM ABACHA)
Her presence was being felt all over Nigeria and even outside Nigeria.
a. In cognizance of the fact that each year ends with the festive celebration of the Christmas, New Year, she ensured that staff of the state house were not left behind. She organized activities including the lighting of Christmas trees, carols and New Year children's party. The same goes for Easter and visitations to Jerusalem. End of year cocktail party and gifts for junior staff of the presidency
b. Occasional get-together parties for wives of Ambassadors and High Commissioners, wives of ministers and also wives of military administrators
c. Dinners, lunches and teas for visiting first ladies.
d. Visitation and gift presentations on independence days and other relevant occasions to various Homes and Institutions all over the Country.
e. Sending representatives of presentation of papers or speeches and above all giving of donation when invited to accessions like governmental, International. NGO'S, Private Conferences, seminars and workshops both home and abroad
f. Receiving of guests at home and abroad this is just to mention a few of her Excellency-Dr. Mrs. MARYAM ABACHA (FORMER FIRST LADY) FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
